Collections Department

Current Projects:

As we progress into 2013, the Collections Department is keeping busy with many projects underway!

  • Restoration work will begin on the F-4 Phantom II beginning in March 2013. The aircraft will be sanded and a new paint scheme will be completed. The F-4 Phantom II will be painted to reflect her paint scheme from when she flew in combat in Da Nang, Vietnam in the late 1960s.

  • The Exhibit and Design Committee is working hard this year creating and building new permanent dioramas within the museum. These dioramas will focus on the F-4’s contribution to the Vietnam War, as well as World War II combat missions. It is our goal to have an exhibition opening of the Vietnam diorama in the Fall, 2013.

  • The Collections Department is completing an audit of all items and artifacts which are stored at Yankee Air Museum that was initiated in 2012. The goal of this audit is to attain full accountability for all items received after the fire, from 2004 to the present. This audit includes identifying items and locations, and updating our database to reflect the information of the physical objects.

The Yankee Air Museum accepts artifact donations during the week, Tuesday through Saturday, 10AM – 4PM. If you have items you would like to donate, please email our Collections Registrar, Pete Stone, or our Conservator, Julie Osborne. You may also call 734-483-4030 and speak to either of those individuals.

We are currently seeking equipment and uniforms from the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, as well as the new conflicts of Iraq and Afghanistan. Any items, including enemy combatant artifacts, are greatly needed.
We are currently not accepting any books, magazines, or aircraft models at this time.
