For no additional charge, students can bring a brown bag lunch and watch a special 30 minute movie in our Movie Theatre featuring airline seats!

Education Programs Offered:

  • Tiger Cub Programs
    • Learn About Your Heritage Field Trip - Tiger Cubs will learn about your Heritage by visiting the Yankee Air Museum. This interactive tour is led by our Living History Interpreters. Find out how the assembly line works, why it was so important to WWII and how children were able to contribute to the war effort.

  • Cub Scout Programs
    • Heritage Belt Loop - Learn about your family heritage through creating a family tree and other fun activities including what documents Museum's use when researching and creating exhibits. After the program is complete, a tour of the Museum will be led by our Living History Interpreters.

  • Boy Scout Programs
    • Aviation Merit Badge - Scouts will explore various careers in aviation, learn the forces of flight and how they affect aircraft, be able to talk about an aircraft instrument panel, and complete a flight from Willow Run Airport to Detroit Metro in a P-51 Mustang in our state of the art simulator. After the program is complete, a tour of the Museum will be led by our Living History Interpreters.

  • Brownie Programs
    • Listening to the Past (Try-It) - Hear stories from the past and discover the roles of women during World War II, from flying bombers to working in the manufacturing plants. Brownies will also get the chance to learn what children their age did to help the war effort during WWII. After the program is complete, a tour of the Museum will be led by our Living History Interpreters.

  • Girl Scout Programs
    • Women's Stories Badge - Explore our Tribute to the Women of the Arsenal of Democracy Exhibit, read about various women during WWII, and learn what characteristics made them successful. Create your own display of contemporary role models to compare and contrast, make a family tree about women in your own family, and create a skit about a famous moment in history. After the program is complete, a tour of the Museum will be led by our Living History Interpreters.

    • Aerospace Badge - Explore various careers in the aerospace industry, discover more about NASA, and learn about the women who made up the Mercury 13 as well as current female astronauts. Students also get to take a flight in our state of the art simulator. After the program is complete, a tour of the Museum will be led by our Living History Interpreters.

  • Summer Camp
    • We are looking to expand our summer camp program this year. Last year we held our first one week summer camp and the feedback from the students and parents was extremely positive. We will be holding summer camp the first three weeks in August of 2011. The camp will feature a combination of fun activities, tours, lessons, simulator time, guest speakers, all themed around aviation, aerospace and of course the history of WWII and the Willow Run bomber plant.   • After School Programs
    • We offer tailored after school programs and clubs for various latch key programs. The cost comes from the school not the students. If you are a school interested in having a fun activity for your students on an ongoing basis please contact me. So far we have run a "Flight Club" for 3rd-5th graders and 6th-8th graders.

  • Library Presentations
    • A hands on presentation and activity about World War II. Students will learn about the home front as well as what children did to help and how they lived in World War II. Paper airplanes and the assembly line at the Willow Run Bomber Plant are also discussed.

  • Birthday Parties
    • Are you interested in throwing your child a fun and educational birthday party? At the Museum we offer a short and fun educational program centered around aviation, a tour of the Museum given by our Living History Interpreters, educational goodie bags, flights in the simulator, and a cockpit photo for the birthday boy or girl. The cost of the party includes the room rental for 3 hours.

  • Student Group Tours
    • Tours of the Museum take approximately between 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on the age and how large the group is. For no additional charge, students can bring a brown bag lunch and watch a special 30 minute movie in our Movie Theatre featuring airline seats!
      • Tours must be scheduled at least 30 days in advance. Final numbers and final payment are due 2 weeks prior to the tour date. We extend student tours to any youth organization, day camp, church group, school group, college class, and college organization.

  • EAA Chapter 113 Scholarship
    • Mettetal Airport’s EAA Chapter 113 will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from area high schools and students currently enrolled in the Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology. Students already participating in a post high school curriculum are eligible when sponsored by a current member of EAA Chapter 113. Additionally, the scholarships are being offered to area high school graduates twenty-five years of age or younger as of April 6, 2012, who though not enrolled in a post high school aviation curriculum, are currently active flight students in an approved flight school and have completed their first solo flight.
